Physical Education Building Renovation
Status: Under Construction
Target Completion: September 2027
Location: Penn State Abington
Design: Kimmel Architecture
Construction: PJ Dick
The Penn State Abington Physical Education Building Renovation will enhance the health, wellness, educational, and athletic experiences of all students by modernizing interior spaces, improving accessibility, and upgrading infrastructure. The project will also expand Abington’s capacity to host events and support a broader range of activities.
The approved plan includes a full renovation of the existing 46,483-square-foot building, along with 6,017 square feet of new infill construction. Key features include updated athletic facilities, such as a renovated gymnasium and weight room; new fitness and student spaces; expanded public commons and entry; enhanced locker rooms; ADA improvements; and additional upgrades.
The design integrates modern programmatic needs with the building’s existing concrete-framed architecture. It prioritizes the student experience by positioning fitness spaces along the building’s exterior to maximize natural light and showcase activity across campus.
